"China's team is preparing to go to the United States for the new round of high-level economic and trade consultations," said Geng Shuang, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a regular press briefing on Monday.
Geng made the response after U.S. President Donald Trump said he would raise tariffs on 200 billion U.S. dollars' worth of Chinese goods this week.
"China hopes the trade talks can achieve positive progress, and that the two countries meet each other half way to get the benefits of the two countries and the expectation of the international community," noted Geng.
"We hope China and the U.S. achieve a mutually beneficial agreement based on mutual respect," added Geng.
