The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has introduced a 12-year limit for all positions within the organization, including the president at its Annual Congress in Copenhagen. However, the limit will not come into force until 2020 elections, according to Tencent Sports.
"All Council members will be barred from serving longer than 12 years in a specific single position – be it president, vice president or member," said IIHF's statement.
Rene Fasel has been leading the organization as president since 1994. When he finishes his sixth term in 2020, Fasel will have been working for 26 years and reach the age limit of 70.

Several other proposals for change have been approved. "A concept of separation of powers between the IIHF Council (political and strategical) and IIHF Office (operational) and the duties, roles and responsibilities of the President, Council and chief executive will be worked on," according to IIHF statement.
Moreover, it will take two thirds, instead of 75 percent of the votes, to adopt or modify a statute and appoint an honorary member for IIHF in the future. Elections for Council Members, Auditors, Disciplinary Board Members and Appeal Board Chair will require 50 percent.
