The Tibetan middle and long distance runners departed for Ethiopia on Thursday and will hold a three-month winter training for the Tokyo Olympics.
The winter training team has a total of eight athletes, five of them are members of the China national athletic team, and three are reserve members of both the national team and the Tibetan team.
All the participants are young athletes, as the 24-year-old 2018 Asian Games men's marathon bronze medal winner and the 13th National Games men's 10,000-meter champion Dobgysl (Duobujie in Mandarin) is the oldest.
The head of the winter training and the national athletic team's coach Gesang Tserang said that the training will be based on the 5,000-meter, 10,000-meter and marathon projects, aiming at the Tokyo Olympics to improve the results.

The team members will be trained together with the Ethiopian stars including the three sisters of Dibaba. The Athletics Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China also equipped the winter training team with accompanying researchers.
Gesang Ciren introduced that this is the sixth time for Tibetan middle and long distance runners to visit Africa for training. Benefiting from the “Athletic Plateau Talents Development Plan” launched by the Athletics Management Center in 2011, there are a batch of excellent athletes emerging from Tibet, Qinghai, Yunnan and other plateau provinces in recent years in the long-distance endurance project.
The winter training program ends in March 2019, after which the participants will begin to participate in domestic and international competitions in a planned manner.
