Libyan Red Crescent teams on Tuesday recovered the bodies of six immigrants off the coast of Libya's western city of Janzur, some 15 km west of the capital Tripoli, a Libyan navy spokesman said.
"Information was received about a boat carrying migrants off Janzur. It was later discovered that the rubber boat has drowned, and bodies of six migrants were washed ashore," Ayob Qassem told Xinhua.
"We do not know how many migrants were on board," he said, suggesting that the boat most likely drowned Tuesday or Monday night, as the bodies did not decompose.
A day earlier, the Libyan coast guards recovered five bodies of immigrants, and rescued 191 others in two separate operations off the western Libyan coast.
Libya is a preferred point of departure for immigrants who want to cross the Mediterranean toward Europe because of insecurity and chaos in their countries.
