Zhao Xu, a Beijing-based artist, holds a solo exhibition themed “Wandering in Space” at the National Art Museum of China, which displays his works depicting the cosmos – the stars and galaxies.
Multimedia technology is employed with the paintings projected onto the walls and the ground, creating a space for meditation by visitors, and allowing them to feel the energy of the universe.

Zhao Xu started to learn painting at a very young age and mainly focused on traditional Chinese painting. He studied famous Singaporean artist Tang Jinhao in the early 1990s and developed his own understanding of art.
Zhao’s works have been on display at dozens of domestic and abroad exhibitions held at renowned galleries. He has published more than 11 personal painting collections so far.

Over the past few years, Zhao has moved from a figurative approach to a semi-abstract style, inspired by his deepening interest in the cosmos and the stars.
His mixed-media paintings, often stretching more than one meter in length and height, overwhelm the audience by depicting myths, illusions, and grandeur.
The exhibition, which opened Thursday, will run through July 22.
