Spring Festival: Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra performs in Brussels

The Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations have immersed even the Belgian capital Brussels.

A Chinese symphony orchestra performed in the honor of the Spring Festival on Tuesday, which falls on February 5 this year.

The concert, themed "fire-phoenix", which is an auspicious symbol in Chinese culture, was held at the Place Flagey theater.

Well-known Chinese musician Tan Dun and the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra performed both Chinese and Western works.

"The concert expressed good wishes for the upcoming Lunar New Year for people in China, Europe and around the world. These kinds of cultural exchanges, I think, will build better understanding between Chinese and European people," said Zhang Ming, head of the Chinese delegation to the European Union.

Audience members said they were impressed by the classic Chinese symphony works and harmonious combination of different music styles.

"We are flabbergasted because, of course, the Chinese culture is incomparable, and we're definitely very pleased and had a lovely evening with this concert," said an audience member.

"We really liked it, especially the second part, because I am not so into Chinese opera, but I thought the second part was really nice, it was so surprising, something very unusual that you'll never see in Belgium, so I really appreciated the concert this evening," said another audience member.

Hosted by the Chinese delegation to the European Union, the concert was a part of a series of activities to celebrate the Spring Festival in Belgium.
