In the last day of the group stage of AFC Champions League Tuesday night, Shanghai SIPG recorded a 5-0 win against Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea to enter the Round of 16, while the journey of Beijing FC (Beijing Guoan FC) ended after losing 3-0 to Urawa Red Diamonds.
The five-goal demolition from the Chinese Super League (CSL) reigning champions SIPG to a depleted but already qualified Ulsan dumped Kawasaki Frontale out of Asia's premier club competition.
Kawasaki thrashed a weakened Sydney FC 4-0 away but SIPG squeezed through by a point in Group H over last year's J-League winners.
SIPG made light of the absence of injured captain Hulk and Oscar hit a hat-trick in the 7th, 42nd and 76th minutes respectively, including a wonderful curling effort from outside the box. Li Shenglong and Hu Jinghang each added one goal in the 67th and 88th minutes.
Next, SIPG will encounter Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC on June 16.
Beijing, the current unbeaten team during the CSL season 2019, were defeated by host Urawa with three goals from Kazuki Nagasawa, Yuki Muto and Shinzo Koroki, coming third in Group G.
