The recently crowned Asian Games women's volleyball champions from China went down 3-1 to Turkey in their second group A match at the FIVB Monteux Volley Masters.
China in yellow and red trailed early on, but score on this attack to make it 3-2 over Turkey. Later in the first set, Meryem Boz's spike makes it 18-16 for Turkey. The 30-year-old scores 19 points in the match. And Turkey went on to wrap up the set 25-19 with an ace.
China was unable to come up with any solutions early in the second set as Zehra Gunes's spike levels it at 3-all en route to winning the set 25-18.
But China did better in the third set. Their first attack was blocked, but they regrouped for a second attempt, which was also blocked, but Liu Xiaotong was able to get it right on the third try, and China went on to win the set 25-23.
And in the match point for Turkey in the fourth set, China was able to fend it off three times before Boz finally delivered the final kill and Turkey took it 25-23 to complete a 3-1 victory.
Turkey continued through to the semi-finals after two consecutive wins while China was eliminated following two straight losses in the group stage.
