As shown in the breath-taking footage, the SUV was driving high speed around the sharp turn. Failing to react quickly, the car drove off the cliff.
The accident was later verified by the local police, announcing the vehicle was retrieved about 150-meter away at downstream. Two female bodies were found inside. The rescue operation for the missing victims remains unknown.
As reported, four victims were all from Chengdu city in Sichuan Province with an age range from 24 to 32. Three of them were colleagues traveling during their annual leave, while the other passenger was a friend to one of the women.
They were during a road trip starting from Chengdu on August 4, following a classic route of Daocheng, Litang, Xinlong and Seda tourist cities. The accident was believed to happen on their way to their final stop Seda.
“They were so young, and they were so excited about the trip,” said the mother-in-law of the 29-year-old victim. According to the mother-in-law, the victim also had an eight-year-old child.
The father-in-law also added that the cliff was about 10-meter high, and the river was seven to eight meter in depth with shallow water temperature. The road was under construction when the accident happened, “It was called the Camel Hill, known for its sharp bend.”
It is widely believed that all four passengers were inside the vehicle during the incident, but no evidence has proven that the two missing victims were on board when the accident occurred, nor has the local authorities confirmed the details.
On August 14, the Chengdu Economic Daily reported there is a small possibility the missing passengers were not inside the car at the time of the accident, according to the footage seen. Further information will be reported to the public after a thorough investigation.
