Business executives: AI opportunities outweigh risks

By CGTN’s Global Business

Most of the business executives CGTN spoke to at Summer Davos are bullish about artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, seeing that opportunities and benefits outweigh the potential risks.

Vivian Jiang, vice chairlady of Deloitte China, said that AI helped to make data accurate for their customers and clients.

But she also said that companies need to prevent financial fraud, as confidence in global investment is weak.

“There are lots of solutions and applications,” said Jiang. She noted that big data and cloud tech will help provide preventive information for governments. “That is another way to manage financial risks.”

To power the process, Splunk's president & CEO Doug Merritt said that companies need to run their data analysis on cloud systems for faster outcomes.

Philipp Gerbert, a senior partner at BCG, also said that companies should have AI strategy, “It is an interesting opportunity,” he said.

But critics believe AI itself is a risk, as it may cost jobs. But a report by the World Economic Forum (WEF) says that AI and robots will create 60 million more jobs, instead of taking them away.

“It will free people from jobs which are dangerous and repetitive,” said Peter Lacy, a senior managing director for growth, strategy and sustainability at Accenture Strategy.

Lacy added that AI could create creative and innovative jobs where humans can play very unique roles.
