The State Council on Sunday held a reception to celebrate the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

President Xi Jinping and other leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the state including Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, Han Zheng, and Wang Qishan attended the event.

In his speech, Premier Li laid out the accomplishments on the measures regarding structural reforms, reiterating China's firm commitment to further reforms and opening-up.

The country will unite all parties to improve people's livelihood in social welfare, education, and pension, according to Li.

Li also pointed out that China will continue to encourage creativity while working on ensuring and safeguarding the intellectual property right.

Deepened exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao will be seen, he said, stressing that "Taiwan independence" in any form is not tolerated.

China will unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development and resolutely safeguard the core interests of the country, Li stressed.

He also said that China is willing to negotiate with the international community to improve the global governance system, expand the intersection of interests with all countries and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Also at the event was a special group of individuals, at President Xi's invitation, the pilots and aircrew from Sichuan Airlines.

Back in May, Captain Liu Chuanjian was able to land the plane safely after experiencing decompression with an injured co-pilot.

Liu was awarded the title of "hero captain" on June 8, for his role in making an emergency landing after the cockpit window broke in flight while carrying 119 passengers. And the cabin crew was also awarded the title "hero crew."

A good seaman is known in bad weather, Xi noted.

When dealing with the dangerous situation, every decision the crew made was correct and strictly in accordance with the procedures, Xi said, adding that the calm and bravery demonstrated at the critical timing come from their strong sense of responsibility and solid professional skills.

President Xi praised the cabin crew and also called on individuals to uphold their professional attitude even when holding a simple job.

Greatness comes from ordinary and heroes come from common people, Xi said, encouraging all Chinese people to practice heroic spirit in daily life.
