Officials from the government of Liaoning Province and Shenyang City attended the opening ceremony. Liu Shumin, the chief executive of Shenbei New District said: “Xibo people are known for their bravery and wisdom and their culture is immensely valuable. Shenbei is the home to China's Xibo ethnic group, thus it’s our responsibility to inherit and spread Xibo culture. And this is why we set up this museum."
One of the most popular sites in this museum is the tea house, where a Xibo dance troupe performs traditional Xibo dance, which is often warmly applauded by the audience.
As a modern museum, it houses collections of cultural relics and hosts various exhibitions and academic exchanges. It is also home to several libraries of documents. More than 700 exhibits in the museum show the long history and development of the Xibo people.
The first floor includes a multi-function hall, a restoration room for exhibits, and a souvenir shop. The second floor houses the main exhibition area, including exhibitions on history, culture, and development of the Xibo ethnic group. The third floor is an office area.
The museum is free to visitors with ID cards from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding Mondays.
