An adult male was shot before 10 p.m. local time on Friday on the sidewalk near the Dartmouth campus, according to local police.  

The campus community was ordered to shelter-in-place as soon as gunshots were reported by police. The shelter notification was then lifted in consultation with police at 12:46 a.m. on Saturday.

Report of the shooting resulted in a large police response from departments throughout the Upper Valley and from New Hampshire State Police. 

 An investigation is still underway.
