China's online video users reached 609 million by the end of June 2018, accounting for 76 percent of the global online users, according to a report published by China Netcasting Services Association at the sixth China Internet Audio and Video Convention (CIAVC) on Tuesday.
The market size of the audio and video industry continues to expand, with video becoming the mainstay of China's Internet-based entertainment industry.
The industry, as a whole, is moving toward a smart-driven premium-products-based future with an objective to attract more young audience.

The report also points out that in 2018, the main profits of the industry came from advertising, paid videos, and copyright licensing. 
Users tend to shell out some extra money for high-quality videos that can meet their tastes, indicating toward the market trend of producing superior products for picky viewers.  
Not surprisingly, smartphones still remain users' top choice for watching online videos and listening online audio content. 
This year also recorded an 18.6 percent increase in viewers watching online videos on smart TVs, thanks to the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) industry.
It is worth noting that artificial intelligence (AI) is helping to reshape the industry. By programming the algorithm,  AI can take over what has long been done by humans, like content censoring, IP awareness, and assessment.
