Cross-Strait relations are the key to achieving national rejuvenation, stressed Wang Yang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), during his meeting with Hung Hsiu-chu, former chairperson of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party, on Monday.
Wang welcomed the strong echo among Taiwan compatriots after President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the gathering marking the 40th anniversary of the "Message to Compatriots in Taiwan," and called on compatriots on both sides of the Strait to work together and contribute to the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
We are willing to hold diverse political consultations with Taiwan compatriots in order to enhance mutual understanding and continuously accumulate mutual trust and consensus, said Wang.
He appreciated Hung for her contribution to upholding the 1992 Consensus, opposing the so-called "Taiwan independence" and consolidating the political foundation for the peaceful development of cross-Strait ties.
For her part, Hung proposed to deepen integrated development, enhance cross-Strait exchanges and work jointly to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
