China's new manned submersible completes Indian Ocean expedition

China's manned submersible Shenhai Yongshi (Deep Sea Warrior) returned to Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, on March 10, after completing a four-month-long expedition in the Indian Ocean. The vessel can reach a depth of 4,500 meters in the harsh and complex oceanic environment. Scientists surveyed five deep-sea hydrothermal areas and collected a trove of samples for research.
