China's consumer price index (CPI) rose 2.3 percent, and China's producer price index (PPI) rose 4.1 percent in August, the National Bureau of Statistics said Monday.

Last month, China's CPI, a main gauge of inflation, rose 2.1 percent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

PPI's growth this month, however, was down from the 4.6 percent rise in July.

Analysts say that the growth in CPI was mainly contributed to higher food prices caused by high temperature and rainy weather.
