French President Emmanuel Macron said China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is significant and can play an important role in world peace, stability and development. He proposed that the EU align its development strategy with the initiative to promote Eurasian connectivity. German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed, saying EU countries should actively discuss participation in the BRI. She also proposed to host a leaders' meeting between the EU and China next year.
