There is also a robust trade relationship at the state level despite the continued trade tensions between the US and China, according to Zhang Ping, China's Consul General in Los Angeles.
“[At the] state level, obviously we see a robust development of economic trade relationship between China and the United States. Both sides are very enthusiastic in promoting that kind of cooperation,” said Zhang.
Zhang took the New Mexico as an example. Last year, the state exported one billion US dollar worth of goods to China last year, while importing 700 million US dollar worth of goods from China. “I think the message we wish to send is that we want to continue to expand our trade and investment relationship with states in the US,” Zhang added.
Zhang pointed out that a good and steady bilateral relationship is crucial, saying that “to maintain a good and steady development of bilateral relationship is the interest for both sides.”
As to the US-China trade war, the consul general stressed that if the trade war lasts much longer, people will really suffer the pain.
“We noticed that many people in the business community are strongly against the trade war. Obviously, if the trade war lasts for a long time, people will feel the impact in a more intensive way,” Zhang told CGTN.
