Titleholders VakifBank, led by China captain Zhu Ting, beat French side Volero Le Cannet 3-0, clinching a spot in the semifinals with one match to spare in the Women's Volleyball Club World Championship in Zhejiang.
The ladies from France came out strong in the city of Shaoxing and grabbed a quick 7-2 lead. But VakifBank battled back to tie the score at 19-all and then claimed the advantage by setting up Zhu for a powerful smash from the middle, en route to taking the opener 25-21.
China's captain continued to deliver for the Turkish club in the second, pounding down a spike for the opening point. She finished with a game-high 23. VakifBank took the second set 25-15.
American Kelsey Robinson made it 5-4 for the champs, early in the third frame.
The Turkish side soon looked to wrap things up, as Ebrar Karakurt sealed the third set 25-17.
