US President Trump’s latest tweet about solving export ban on China’s ZTE has triggered heated discussion and China denied on Thursday that it traded its core interests with the US to lift the ban.
Since trade tensions between the two countries intensified in late March, the US issued an export ban on products sold to China’s largest telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE last month.
At a Thursday media briefing, Gao Feng, the spokesman for China’s Ministry of Commerce, denied some media reports that China paid high costs to remove the ban on ZTE.
“The economic and trade cooperation is formed by the market and facilitated by market forces, so it should follow the rules of the market economy, not planned economy. We will firmly protect our interests and we will not sacrifice our core interests to trade with the US.”
Gao said that China is willing to expand imports from all countries, and welcomes companies from all countries, including the US, to invest in China. Beijing also hopes to see the US drop its trade limitations and provide a fair playing field for Chinese products and companies.
A Chinese delegation led by Chinese Vice Premier Liu He has arrived in Washington, DC for the second round of China-US trade negotiations. The talks started on Tuesday and will close on Saturday.
