At least 22 people were confirmed dead after a section of a motorway bridge collapsed on Tuesday over the northern Italian port city of Genoa, Reuters reported citing a transport official.
The death toll is expected to rise as multiple vehicles are still trapped in the rubble.
The "Morandi bridge" collapsed at around 11:30 a.m. local time (0930 GMT) during torrential rainfall.

Italian television showed images of the collapsed bridge, which was built on the A10 toll motorway in the 1960s.
Restructuring work on the bridge was carried out in 2016.
Italian motorway operator Autotrade said in a statement that they are working to strengthen the underlying road structure of the bridge.
