China urged Japan to adhere to the path of peaceful development and take actions in a prudent manner in the field of military development, Hua Chunying, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said on Tuesday at a daily news briefing.
Hua made the remarks in response to Japan's new defense guidelines which references China, calling on Japan to stick to its commitment for a defensive policy.
"The new guideline made false accusations against China's normal military activities and incited the so-called 'China Threat'," said Hua.
"What Japan has done is harmful to the improvement and development of Sino-Japan relations. China has expressed strong dissatisfaction and lodged representations with the Japanese side."
"We urge Japan to keep its promise on purely defensive defense policy, adhere to the path of peaceful development, and act prudently when dealing with issues in the field of military security," added the spokesperson.
Japan will accelerate spending on advanced stealth fighters, long-range missiles, and other equipment over the next five years to support U.S. forces facing China's military in the Western Pacific.
