As China-US trade tensions keep ratcheting up, the president of the most influential Chinese-American group in the US tells CGTN that the situation does not sit well with the group.
Frank Wu, director of the One Hundred Committee says, " Because of the Asian looks, Chinese Americans are vulnerable. People are talking about trade war, culture war, even military war."
He said the China-US trade tension hurts Americans in different industries. And Chinese Americans, who have done particularly well in the silicon valley have been doubly hit in this round.
"They're affected because of the trade barrier as well as the immigration barriers."
He also said that beyond the real issue of China-US trade, trading with China has also taken a "scape goat" route. "Trading with China has become a convenient way to blame domestic problems on somebody outside. Because there is anxiety in America and a desire to find an enemy."
"China-US relations is now standing on a cross-road, but we have choices to make", Wu said.
"US and China can change the world. They can do so many things together, that's why Chinese-Americans have a role to play."
He suggests that constructive dialogue between the two nations can be the way out for the current contention, and said he's optimistic that the trade issue will be resolved soon.
