China is willing to work with Comoros to enhance friendly cooperation in various fields to upgrade bilateral ties to a higher level, President Xi Jinping said on Saturday when meeting with Comoros President Azali Assoumani, who is in Beijing to attend the upcoming 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
President Xi pointed out China is the first country to establish diplomatic relations with Comoros and since then bilateral ties have developed smoothly, which can be regarded as a model of equality, solidarity and cooperation between countries that are different in size.
He added the two sides should enhance cooperation under the framework of the FOCAC and the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.
The Chinese president said the two countries should continue to understand each other and support each other.
China is willing to link the Belt and Road Initiative with Comoros' 2030 Development Plan for Emerging Economies and provide support for Comoros to realize its own sustainable development, Xi added.
Assoumani noted China is the first country to recognize Comoros' independence and establish diplomatic relations. China has long provided tangible assistance to the economic development and livelihood of Comoros.
He said Comoros firmly pursues the one-China policy and will continue to support China in international affairs.
The Comoros president praised the Belt and Road Initiative and believes that the initiative will further provide assistance for Africa and China to achieve win-win cooperation
The two leaders also witnessed the signing of a series of bilateral cooperation documents.
