Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, accompanied by Queen Letizia of Spain, visited the Teatro Real, or Royal Theater in central Madrid on the morning of April 28 local time.
When Peng Liyuan and Queen Letizia arrived, the country's minister of sport and culture, the chairman of the Royal Theater Foundation and the general manager of the theater welcomed them at the door.
Peng listened to the history, culture, architectural style and operation of the theater, and took a photo with Queen Letizia and the theater director.
Later, Peng watched the light rehearsal for the opera "Turandot."
Following, Peng and Queen Letizia went to the central stage of the royal court to take photos with the cast and crew of "Turandot" and wish them success in their first performance.
Peng said that art, regardless of national boundaries, is a universal language.
Both China and Spain are major art countries. Artists of the two countries have always appreciated and learned from each other. The Teatro Real and the National Center for the Performing Arts of China have maintained good cooperation and jointly provided the first-class stage for artists to display their talents.
During the visit, Peng called for more exchanges and cooperation between the art circles of the two countries and continuously enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
Founded in 1818, the Teatro Real has a history of 200 years. It is known as the top palace of Spanish stage art and enjoys a high reputation in the world. The theater is part of the Silk Road International League of Theaters.
