Opera ‘La Traviata’ starts its fifth run at Beijing's NCPA

With the Spring Festival treading on the heels of the New Year celebration, the festive atmosphere is pervasive in China.

For opera enthusiasts, the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) has already prepared a classical work, Giuseppe Verdi's “La Traviata” to kick off this year's performances. The NCPA's version of “La Traviata” was staged for the first time in 2010, with this year's being the fifth run in the Chinese capital.

Based on French novelist Alexandre Dumas' "The Lady of the Camellias”, “La Traviata” is one of the most familiar operas among Chinese audiences. Aside from the famous duet “The Drinking Song”, several arias including “Addio del Passato” are also among the most welcomed segments.

This time, the NCPA has invited Italian conductor Renato Palumbo and Kazakhstan soprano Maria Mudryak to partner with domestic artists Zhou Xiaolin, Shi Yijie and others.

The opera's stage arrangements present a romantic setting by interweaving reality with illusion.

The artists have been busy rehearsing the opera, in order to present the best performance for the audience.

Meanwhile, the hit original variety show “Super-Vocal” have attracted a number of new fans to the high arts including operas.

The opera will be staged January 20-26 at the NCPA.
