“He said he wanted to meet the leader of [North] Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) then he said he will not meet. And then he says he will meet," Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Wednesday when asking about his opinion on US President Donald Trump.

"So it's very difficult to make out what he wants to do. Dealing with people who are not consistent is a very big problem," Mahathir said during a meeting with the renowned US Council of Foreign Relations, reported Star Online, largest paid English newspaper in terms of circulation in Malaysia.

The 93-year-old leader also showed his disapproval towards Trump's unilateral vision of the world. Just days ago, the president of the world's largest economy urged the world to "reject globalism" during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.

"And he seems to be thinking about America and thinking only how to make America great again. He's not thinking about foreign relations," Mahathir said.

The prime minister was also asked whether he agreed with Trump's approach to China,  he said he did not.

“I think you can make America great in many other ways but having a trade war is not the best way of serving America,” said the prime minister.

Mahathir expressed his confidence in China.

“Thirty years ago, China was a very poor country and they survived. So if you make it poor again, I think it will survive.”
