The Chinese government is trying to ease Beijing’s burden as a capital by moving non-capital industries and personnel to the Tongzhou district.
The Beijing Municipal Planning and Land Conservancy Commission issued the draft of the Detailed Plan and Control Measures for the Development of Beijing Urban Sub-center on Thursday, soliciting public suggestions.

Many residents in Beijing have already felt the changes, with substantial improvements in traffic, population density, and the environment. However, the lifestyles of some of the local residents have also been impacted.
One of the measures by the government is to move some small stores and vegetable markets out of the city center. While this means broader streets for traffic and an improved environment, it also means that shopping for grocery will be less convenient, according to some residents.

People moving into the sub-center district believe that the government should step in to smooth the transition for the public, for instance, by building more grocery stores and shopping centers to create self-contained communities and neighborhoods.
Of course, Beijingers understand that every major change has its pros and cons. By announcing the draft plan and collecting opinions, the Beijing municipal government intends to hear different voices and suggestions so that it can provide a better working and living environment with improved services.
