China is willing to increase cooperation with the World Bank under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday while meeting with World Bank President Jim Yong Kim at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.
China boasts good long-term cooperation with the World Bank and always appreciates the World Bank's active support for the initiative and its recent efforts made to promote capital increase and equity reform, said Xi.
"The World Bank is an important force in maintaining multilateralism and economic globalization."
Xi pointed out that China is willing to deepen its global development partnership with the World Bank, jointly promote trade and sustainable development, and build a community of shared future for mankind.
"The world today is a global village. Despite the constant appearance of unilateralism and protectionism, the blended interests and shared destiny of different countries and economic globalization are irreversible, and win-win cooperation represents the general trend," Xi stressed.
China opposes false accusations against China and will firmly safeguard its legitimate interests as China's development has benefited from both economic globalization and trade liberalization and has also made important contributions to global economic growth, said Xi.
As a responsible power, the builder of and contributor to the current international system, China will unswervingly support the improvement of multilateral trading systems, promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, and work together with all parties to achieve mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, Xi added.
Kim echoed Xi's stance on the Belt and Road Initiative, confirming its contribution to international development cooperation and poverty reduction.
"The World Bank is willing to further deepen cooperation under the framework of the initiative with China and jointly promote new achievements in global poverty reduction and development," said Kim.
He also hailed China's long-term support for the World Bank, appreciating China's efforts made for multilateralism, economic globalization, the World Bank's capital increase and equity reform.
"The World Bank speaks highly of President Xi’s important speech at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum last year. I fully agree with Xi's proposal that countries must have the courage to swim in the vast ocean of the global market, which I quote many times," Kim added.
