Blackstone CEO: I am an American, and I am also a friend of China

World Insight with Tian Wei

The annual World Economic Forum (WEF) wraps up on January 25. More than 3,000 people will have participated in this year's forum, including over 65 heads of state and other leaders of government and top international organizations.

CGTN senior correspondent Tian Wei spoke with Blackstone Group CEO Stephen Schwarzman on the current state of Sino-U.S. relations.

"The meeting of the two presidents in Argentina, from everything that I understand, that is very successful meeting, it was extremely well handled by President Xi, and it was extremely well received by President Trump and the U.S. group," said Schwarzman.

According to Schwarzman, after the Argentina meeting, there have been regular discussions between China and U.S. which followed up on the issues that President Xi put on the table. Those issues are going quite well, and there are other issues that of concern to the U.S. side, those are things that will be discussed over the next month, commented Schwarzman.

As a communicator between China and U.S., Schwarzman has witnessed the complexity of the two countries' relationship. He is intimately aware of having to balance his role between China and the U.S.

"I am an American, and so in that sense, I have sympathy with the American view, and I am also a friend of China, I understand the Chinese view and what the Chinese system can adjust to, and if you can help in any way get the overlap, so the change can happen on the basis that accommodates both system, that's a very good role, I spent a lot of time doing it, I am happy and proud to do that."
