A man stabbed a police officer to death and left with the officer's gun in Toyama City, central Japan, on Tuesday, local media reported.

After stabbing the policeman, the assailant shot a security guard at a local elementary school near the police box. The security guard was seriously injured and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The suspect was detained after he was shot by an officer, local police said
