Kroos extends contract with Real Madrid until 2023

Spanish football giants Real Madrid have extended the contract of Toni Kroos until the end of the 2022-23 season. The 29-year-old midfielder, whose deal was previously set to expire one summer earlier, joined the La Liga side from Bayern Munich after helping Germany win the World Cup in 2014.

After signing on the dotted lines once again, Kroos said, "Of course if I extend my contract for four years, and I'm 29-years-old now, the idea is to end my career here. My thoughts have not changed. I do not see myself playing at 38 so I will make a decision when the time comes, and my idea is for this to be my last long contract extension."

Kroos has helped Real Madrid win 11 titles, including three Champions Leagues and one La Liga trophy. But Los Blancos just ended one of their worst seasons in recent years with Sunday's 2-0 home loss to Real Betis.

The club finished third, eight points behind city rivals Atletico, and 19 adrift of champions Barcelona. They are now expected to revamp most of their squad under Zinedine Zidane, who returned as coach near the end of the campaign.
