Police detonated 885 old bombs and shells on Thursday in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The unexploded bombs and shells were from the Japanese aggressors in the 1930s and 1940s. Many of the bombs had seriously corroded, and could have exploded at any time, posing a severe threat to local residents and the surrounding environment. Police have collected or seized a total of 1,294 discarded bombs and shells in the past 10 years.
