"In the process of modernization, how to properly handle the relations between industry and agriculture, urban and rural areas, to a certain extent, determines the success or failure of modernization," Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed recently.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks in an article on the rural vitalization strategy that was published Saturday in the 11th issue of the Qiushi Journal this year.
The article underscored the central place on the work agenda of the Party of addressing the issues of agriculture, rural areas and rural people.
Without the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, there will be no modernization of the country, it said.

The article pointed out that the modernization of agriculture and rural areas is the overall goal of the rural vitalization strategy, adding that the overall requirements of the strategy are to build rural areas with thriving businesses, pleasant living environments, social etiquette and civility, effective governance, and prosperity.
The rural vitalization strategy was put forward by Xi in his report to the 19th CPC National Congress in October 2017. China released a five-year plan on the strategy in September 2018.
Last month, the country announced guidelines on the promotion of integrated urban-rural development, aiming to remarkably reduce the urban-rural gap in development and living standards by 2035.
