China occupied first place on the opening day of the 2018 Wingsuit Flying World Championship at Jinggu Dai and Yi Autonomous County of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The event, "Wings for Love," runs from December 28 to January 1.

The Chinese team successfully completed the flying at high difficulty with a more accurate landing to lead France and Chile, which are at second and third respectively.

All flyers are required to jump from an altitude of 1,000 meters and land as closely as possible over a target on the ground after passing through a 20-meter wide gap between two hot air balloons at a height of 200 meters.

"I believe that the players will show us the most wonderful and thrilling wingsuit flying competition with their extraordinary, brave stunts," said Xu Kai, chairman of the championship committee.

Over 20 world top wingsuit flyers from nine countries participate in the event, such as reverse wingsuit flying for personal challenge and the wingsuit formation flying in the night to challenge the Guinness World Record for prizes and praise.

All prizes will be donated to local children, the organizers said.

The event, hailed as the "Olympics" for wingsuit flying, is the largest international wingsuit flying event.
