North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has seen good results in its agriculture after the introduction of desulfurized steel slags to help handle its abundant amounts of saline soil. In the past, saline soil made up around 50 percent of land in Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia. Local people had abandoned the land for more than 20 years as the salty soil was not fertile enough to grow crops.
