Gay couples in Japan file lawsuit for legal same-sex marriage

On Valentine's Day, 13 gay couples across Japan filed the country's first ever lawsuit challenging the country's rejection of same-sex marriage. The main goal of the lawsuit is to guarantee marital equality for same-sex couples. The LGBTQ rights movement has struggled to gain ground in Japan where Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his supporters have campaigned in support of what they call traditional family values.
