The families of Chinese victims from the sunken boat incident in Thailand have received compensation, as work to recover the last body trapped underwater continues, Thai government officials said during a press conference on Friday.
Six families have each received 420,000 yuan (62,900 US dollars) in compensation, with another 17 families expected to get their recompense on Friday.
The Phoenix capsized last week off the coast of Phuket Province in rough seas with 122 Chinese nationals on board. Seventy-five were rescued and 47 others died.
A total of 46 bodies have been recovered, among whom 45 have been identified. Rescuers are still trying to retrieve the last body from the sunken wreckage, despite harsh weather conditions and technical difficulties.
Two of the injured remain in hospital, with one to be discharged today and the other expected to leave on Saturday.
Thai officials said they will improve their red flag warning system, and tighten the rules on boat cruises.
