The Chinese government said trade tensions between China and the US had had a minor effect on the domestic economy.
A spokeswoman for the National Bureau of Statistics said it was due to stable production in the manufacturing and services sectors, citing growth in demand along with steady employment and prices.
“In April, among 31 big cities and other regions across the country, the unemployment rate was below 5 percent, which was a drop compared with the same period last year. The favorable employment situation fully proves that the macro situation is basically stable,” said Liu Aihua, the spokeswoman for the National Bureau of Statistics.

Meanwhile, new sectors and products including high-tech manufacturing, e-commerce and energy products also witnessed rapid growth from January to April. The number of newly registered companies reached a record high of about 20,000 in April based on the relatively rapid growth in the previous year.

The number showed that despite the “external uncertainties and internal imbalances” since the beginning of this year, the economy has continued to maintain a “stable, steady, and positive development”, which has laid a solid foundation to realize the annual economic goals.
Liu said that as the world's largest market, China would continue to expand its reform and opening-up policies. Innovation and technological development will be encouraged as well, she added.
