Little known to most of the world, the Republic of Guinea is a country on the western coast of Africa with stunning scenery. Due to its diverse geography and history, Guinea presents many well-known tourist sites.

The towering Monument du 22 Novembre 1970 stands in the country's capital Conakry, and memorializes the victims of a coup attempt on that day.

About 135 kilometers northeast of the capital and jointly built by Guinea and China, the three-turbine Kaleta hydropower station will play a significant role in providing reliable power for Conakry’s 1.7 million residents. It will also power Guinea's bauxite mines, which account for 31 percent of the country's power consumption and are vital to its GDP.

The two countries also joined hands to build the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital in Conakry. With modern facilities to serve 200 inpatients at a time, it's one of the country's finest hospitals.

Guinea was caught up in the West Africa Ebola outbreak in 2014. However, the country was officially declared Ebola-free in June 2016 and has released the travel restrictions, meaning that now it is time to explore the country.
