China and India agreed on Saturday to improve mutual trust and build a friendly cooperative relationship in a new era.
The announcement came after an informal meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, from Friday to Saturday.
The two countries reached a "comprehensive" consensus on global and bilateral issues concerning both, according to a statement issued after the talks.

China and India are neighbors, friends and partners, and both stay committed to independent and peaceful development, and therefore agree to promote mutual trust, the statement said.
The two leaders also agreed their two countries have the maturity and wisdom to handle all their differences peacefully through talks.
On the China-India border issue, Xi and Modi agreed it's important to maintain peace and stability on the border region and that the two countries should endorse a dialogue mechanism to find a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement, it said.

The two countries also agreed to uphold open and fair trade as well as multilateralism, and to oppose protectionism.
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou told reporters the just-concluded informal meeting was a "milestone" in China-India ties.
China and India have concrete differences but the meeting was not aimed at addressing these specific issues, Kong said. President Xi said the problems between China and India are of a limited, temporary nature, Kong said.
