An ultra-high voltage transmission tunnel across the Yangtze River was completed on Tuesday. It is part of the world’s first ultra-high voltage, gas insulated underground power line, and is expected to go into operation in 2019. Once completed, it is believed to cut coal consumption by 100 million tonnes and cut several thousand tonnes of pollutant emissions in China's key economic regions.
