Photos taken recently show large patches of gorgeous “red beaches” in Qingdao City, Shandong Province. It's the best time to see these red seepweeds at the mouth of the Jiaozhou Bay.
Seepweeds are the “Transformers” in the plant kingdom, changing their shape and color to adapt to various soil environments. The formation of this “red beach” is a result of the land's high salinity. In such an environment, seepweeds develop succulent purple-red leaves and dwarfish bodies. In soil with lower salinity, seepweeds will turn green and form lush branches and thin leaves.
