Washington and Seoul have reaffirmed their shared commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, amid revived hopes that the summit between President Donald Trump and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong Un could still push through.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Republic of Korea (ROK) Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha held a phone conversation on Thursday local time, during which they reiterated their shared commitment to the denuclearization of the Peninsula and to the "ironclad alliance" between the two countries, according to a statement by the State Department.
The two officials expressed commitment to remaining "closely coordinated" in all of their efforts to create conditions for dialogue with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and agreed that work must continue until the DPRK embraces denuclearization, the statement said.
