Following the Japanese report, Jiang Jinfu Studio published a post on China's Twitter-like social media platform, Weibo, stating that Jiang had turned himself in to the police and was cooperating with the investigation.

The arrest followed a TBS interview with Jiang's girlfriend, 25-year-old Haruka Nakaura, who described how Jiang had beaten her until the room was covered in blood. The program also showed photos of Nakaura's bruised face.
According to the program, 27-year-old Jiang assaulted Nakaura in his home in Tokyo on October 12. Nakaura's face and arms were injured and the wounds would take four months to heal.
The 25-year-old Japanese model first accused Jiang of domestic violence via her Instagram account on November 20 with photos showing bruises on her face and neck. In the photo descriptions, Nakaura said that Jiang's abuse caused her to suffer a miscarriage and denied rumors that she had improper relationships with other men.
In response, Jiang also published a statement on Weibo, admitting to the accusation. He apologized to Nakaura for hurting her and his parents and friends for disappointing them.
However, Jiang's abuse scandal has been debated on Chinese social media. In a China Phoenix TV interview with Jiang's attorney in Tokyo, he denied some of Nakaura's accusations, including claims that her teeth were broken and the description of the bloody room.

News of the arrest immediately became a hot topic on Weibo with trending hashtags of “Jiang Jinfu arrested” and “two doubtful points in Jiang's scandal.”
“Why people are now speaking up for Jiang, is not to defend Jiang against violence, but because they are eager for a clear answer to the public questions," @Wufarushuidekongqi commented on Weibo.
“Violence is wrong, but it doesn't mean all of what Nakaura said is right. Wait for the truth,” commented @Zhalangxiannvbianyouqian
Others argued that domestic abuse is always shameful.
"I really look down upon men who commit domestic violence,” commented @Liuluoxi.
"Your acting career has ended," wrote @Wangjiushiwang.
