Consolation win for Yang Yang in 500m short track at Winter Universiade

At the 29th edition of the Winter Universiade, currently underway in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, China's Yang Yang registered a consolation win in the short track speed skating Final B at the Arena Sever Multifunctional Complex on Tuesday. 
Earlier, she was unable to qualify for the main final of the women's 500 meters but went on to have a great race in Final B.
In fact, after the quarter-finals and semi-finals, Yang was the only Chinese contestant remaining and in Final B, she managed to finish first in 45.090 seconds.
In the men's draw, all the Chinese skaters failed to qualify for the quarter-finals while Monday's 1,500 meter winner An Kai crashed out. Meanwhile, in the men's 5,000-meter relay, China reached Final B, but the women's team was penalized in the 3,000 meters for a technical fault.
The biennial international student and youth competition got underway on March 2 and will be on until March 12.
The Chinese team has so far got one gold medal and one silver in the 10-day competition, featuring the top university athletes of winter sports across the world.
