Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on legislative bodies from China and Panama to play a constructive role in the development of bilateral relations.
President Xi made this remark when he met with Yanibel Abrego, president of the National Assembly of Panama, during his visit to the country on Monday.
China is willing to work with Panama to promote the development of bilateral relations on the basis of the one-China principle, said President Xi.
During their talks, Xi also called on the two sides to deepen understanding and enhance mutual trust through dialogue, and to support each other on issues involving their respective core interests and major concerns.
For her part, Abrego expressed a warm welcome to President Xi for his visit, saying the assembly is willing to make contributions to promote friendly cooperation between the two countries.
President Xi arrived in Panama on Sunday for a state visit, the first of its kind since the two countries established diplomatic relations in June 2017.
Panama is the third leg of Xi's ongoing Europe and Latin America tour, with Portugal as the final stop.
