The old Tappan Zee Bridge over the Hudson River, some 25 miles north of Midtown Manhattan, was demolished in a controlled explosion on Tuesday. The bridge had been standing for over 60 years but closed in 2017 after being deemed unsafe by engineers. The new, safer bridge that has opened is expected to last for at least 100 years.
