A Chinese family reportedly paid 6.5 million U.S. dollars (about 44 million yuan) to secure a spot for their daughter at Stanford University. It is the largest payment referenced by federal prosecutors as part of a far-reaching investigation into a college admissions fraud. The student has been identified as Chinese national Zhao Yusi, the daughter of Chinese billionaire Zhao Tao, chairman of Shandong Buchang Pharmaceuticals.
